5 Ways To Make ISK in A Class 1 Wormhole

Class 1 or C1 wormholes are the lowest class of wormhole out of the 6 classes, shattered wormholes and the Thera wormhole system. A C1 wormhole has one static linked to highsec, lowsec or nullsec (k-space), in addition to wandering wormholes and K162 wormholes that connect directly to the C1 from the outside.

The statics last about 24 hours and then collapse due to time limits. But they can also be collapsed manually through rolling, which means jumping ships through the wormhole so that it collapses due to mass limits. A C1 k-space static has a 62 million kilogram maximum jump limit and a total mass of 1 billion kilograms.

There are several ISK making opportunities in C1 wormholes in the wormhole itself, the static and other connecting wormholes. Let's talk about them!

#1 Asteroid Mining

C1 wormholes will have ore sites spawning several times per month. These are green anomalies that can be warped to directly from the probe scanner. They typically contain certain amounts of Gneiss, Arkonor, Bistot, Omber and Kernite, in total usually several hundred million ISK worth of ore. These sites also have sleeper NPCs that spawn 15-20 minutes after a player ship has initiated warp to the ore site. The NPCs are quite easy to destroy.

It is advisable to compress the ore before exporting it to highsec for sale or manufacturing. This can be done through a station in the wormhole, or by using a Porpoise industrial command ship equipped with an industrial core and ore compressor.

Connecting wormholes may also have similar ore sites, particularly other low class wormholes such as C2 or C3 wormholes. But it is usually more risky to mine these sites, because it is more difficult to control the environment compared to your home in a C1 wormhole. In your home you can collapse all the wormhole connections and isolate your star system from the rest of New Eden. This way you can safely use for example mining barges and a command ship. When mining in neighboring wormholes, it is generally advisable to use expedition frigates like the Prospect and Endurance, they are fast and agile, making them more difficult to catch. They also cost less than a mining barge, so you will lose less ISK if you get destroyed.

K-space also offers mining opportunities from mining Veldspar and other common ores in highsec, to Dark Ochre, Crokite and Gneiss in lowsec, to Arkonor and Bistot in nullsec anomalies. In highsec it is reasonably safe to use mining barges and a command ship. In lowsec it is also possible, but more risky without a defense fleet, thus Prospects and Endurances are recommended. In nullsec you can possibly also ninja mine the moons if you can find an empty system with an Athanor that has recently been drilling.

#2 Gas Harvesting

In C1 wormholes gas sites occasionally spawn, but they have less volume and value than ore sites. Typically you can get around 100-150 million ISK worth of gas, sometimes more. These sites are red cosmic signatures and must be scanned with probes and they do have sleeper NPCs guarding them.

It is also advisable to compress the gas, although this can sometimes reduce its value a bit, because there is a loss when decompressing gas. This can be done with a Porpoise as well.

Of course neighboring wormholes may also have similar gas sites, and possibly some that are more valuable. These more valuable gas sites have more powerful NPCs guarding them as well. In your home C1 wormhole and other "safe" wormholes, it is advisable to use a Venture with T1 gas cloud scoops to harvest the gas, as T2 scoops have waste residue, which means some of the gas is wasted when harvesting. But if you are harvesting gas in a dangerous environment, then upgrading to T2 scoops is a good idea as they get the job done faster. Endurances cannot equip gas cloud scoops, but Prospects can, and they have a bigger mining hold in addition to the Cover Ops cloaking device.

Highsec doesn't really have gas sites, but they can be found in lowsec and sometimes in nullsec as well. Lowsec gas is more valuable than wormhole gas in general, and doesn't have NPCs guarding it. There it would be recommended to use Ventures, as a properly fitted Venture is very difficult to catch in lowsec due to warp disruption bubbles not being allowed.

#3 Planetary Interaction

Planetary interaction is a great way to earn semi-passive income in a wormhole system. However if you don't have access to the customs offices, you will have to destroy them and deploy new ones in your corporation's name. This takes time and money, but you can set the tax rate to zero if you want. Also note that owning a customs office makes you war eligible. If you want to avoid that, then make a shell corporation with an alternate character and transfer ownership of the customs offices to them.

Side note: You can also have citadels and other stations in the ownership of a shell corporation and grant access through access lists to avoid wars. This doesn't work with control towers though.

Wormhole planets tend to have more plentiful resources than planets in highsec and lowsec, but they are roughly equal to those in nullsec. How much money you can make depends on the planet types. Lava and Plasma planets for example produce more valuable resources than most other planets.

Note that planetary interaction skills are only available for Omega accounts. But you can make 3 characters per account and train these skills on all of the characters, and thereby produce a lot of materials somewhat passively.

#4 Hacking Sites

C1 wormholes have frequent relic and data hacking sites. The ones named after pirate factions don't have any NPCs, but the other sites have many sleeper NPCs guarding them. However typically the best hacking loot is found in the pirate hacking sites. In the sleeper hacking sites, the NPCs give better loot than what you get from hacking the cans.

Connecting wormholes may also have hacking sites. But be careful in them, because they are often camped by PVP pilots looking to destroy defenseless exploration ships. One way to check if someone has been active in the wormhole, is by looking up the wormhole j-code on Zkillboard.com to see if there has been any ships destroyed in the system recently.

There are also hacking sites in highsec and lowsec, but these may be less valuable than the ones in wormhole space. However the hacking sites in nullsec are typically on the same level as wormhole hacking sites, and they never have any NPCs.

#5 Combat Sites

In C1 wormholes the combat sites are probably the worst when it comes to making ISK. Typically you get under 10 million ISK from the loot drops and salvage per combat site. The sleeper relic and data sites drop the best loot out of all combat sites in C1 wormholes.

C1 wormholes are however frequently connected to C2 and C3 wormholes. The combat sites in these wormholes are much more lucrative, but also more difficult to complete. You either need a more expensive ship to do it, or you need multiple ships, such as from your corp mates or alternate characters. Strategic cruisers and heavy assault cruisers are pretty good choices. However it's also possible to complete some of these sites with a properly fitted Myrmidon, Vexor Navy Issue or Gila.

In lowsec and highsec the most valuable combat sites are DED rated sites. These sites can drop valuable deadspace and faction modules. They can be found by scanning the red signatures with probes, or by completing multiple green pirate combat anomalies such as Hideaways, Refuges and Dens that can then escalate to DED sites. The Jackdaw is good for DED 3/10 and 4/10 sites, whereas for DED 5/10 sites you will need some form of strategic cruiser. In nullsec it's possible to find empty systems with a lot of green pirate combat anomalies that provide decent ISK bounties for destroying the NPCs. These include Hubs, Forsaken Rally Points, Havens and Sanctums. You can complete most of these sites in a properly fitted Ishtar or Gila.
